KUALA LUMPUR: Police have advised the public to be extra vigilant against
splashers using corrosive liquid who have been
targeting innocent pedestrians around Kuala Lumpur for over
a month. City police deputy chief Senior Asst Comm
Datuk Amar Singh said the public
should watch over each other and keep a lookout for motorcyclists behaving suspiciously.
“Currently, we believe the suspects are of dark complexion
and riding either a Honda EX-5 or a Yamaha motorcycle.
“Even the smallest detail about the motorcyclist or the machine may lead
to the arrest of these individuals,” he said.
SAC Amar also urged shop and building owners to be on the lookout for the duo.
He said they could go through their CCTV footage to find clues if the suspects
had attacked anyone near their establishments.
“A task force was set up after the attacks started in March and we have been monitoring
areas where the suspects have hit.
“We have also beefed up patrols and security precautions in various locations
in the city,” he said. The splasher attacks began on March 2 after eight students and a teacher
from SK Bukit Bandaraya in Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar,
were splashed with a burning substance by a motorcyclist.
Since then, a total of more than 20 people have already suffered either minor or severe burns
at the hands of these culprits.
The latest incidents were on May 6 and May 7 when two women were
splashed with the liquid when a motorcyclist attacked them from behind in
Jalan Pudu Lama at 9pm. Thirty minutes later, a lawyer was attacked near
a parking lot in front of a shopping centre in Jalan Putra.
The suspects then splashed liquid on a woman and her year-old baby
who were standing in their house compound in Persiaran Titiwangsa at 3pm on May 7.
